Summary: Morphine has been a salve for war-weary soldiers, a pain reliever for new mothers and a fuel for writers and poets. The analgesic qualities of the drug are still considered supreme, but so are its addictive properties. The clash over its utility as an effective pain reliever and its identity as an addictive narcotic puts morphine at the centre of a controversy over the treatment of incurable pain. This documentary is about the conviction of pain specialist Dr. Frank Adams and other members of the medical establishment who believe morphine remains the best treatment for sufferers of chronic pain.
