Land of Fire : Searching for Natural Gas Hydrate

Summary: The answer to dwindling energy sources may lie beneath the snow and ice of Canada's North. A massive source of untapped natural gas under the permafrost is ready to be exploited, but technological challenges remain. Gas hydrate is methane gas trapped within a cage of ice. It contains 164 times its volume in gas. Reserves have also been found in Alaska and northern Russia. The program features scientists from around the world who are on the hunt for the best ways to extract this valuable resource.
