Post Partum Depression

Summary: Statistics say that two out of every thousand new mothers suffer from post partum depression, a condition that can lead to debilitating depression and sometimes violence. This candid documentary presents the real experiences of four women. At first elated about having a baby and being a mother, the women found that they could not function or feel love for their babies. Their symptoms included a temporary loss of a sense of reasoning, and psychotic and paranoid behaviour to the point of contemplating harming themselves and their babies. Most of these women have had successful treatment with medication or electro-convulsive therapy. Some have not. An informed awareness and a change in attitude and expectations is the first step in helping women with this disorder and avoiding any more tragedies.
