Mount St. Helens : A Giant Wakes Up December 2004

Summary: It's been almost 25 years since Mount St. Helens erupted with the force of hundreds of atomic bombs. The massive blast killed 57 people, thousands of wild animals, and devastated more than 200 square kilometres of forest. Since then, the giant volcano in Washington State has been relatively quiet. But in early October 2004 it rumbled back to life, blowing off plumes of steam and ash. In this News in Review story we'll look at what's going on inside the volcano. And we'll show you how scientists are listening to the sounds it's making to try to predict when it will erupt again.
