The Conservative Party Chooses a Leader. April 2004

Summary: The Liberal sponsorship scandal gave the newly formed Conservative Party of Canada a big boost in the polls, just as party members were preparing to choose a leader. Three candidates campaigned for the job: Stephen Harper, the former leader of the Canadian Alliance Party; Tony Clement, a former Ontario cabinet minister; and Belinda Stronach, a business executive and political newcomer. We’ll look at the candidates and their campaigns, and follow them all the way to the Conservative leadership convention.
