Canada Votes : A Liberal Minority September 2004

Summary: In June, Canadians voted in a federal election that some thought might end years of Liberal rule. Prime Minister Paul Martin’s Liberals had been battered by a sponsorship scandal. Stephen Harper’s new Conservative Party seemed to have a real chance of forming the next government. There was also a revitalized NDP under Jack Layton. However, the Liberals managed to win a minority of seats and hang on to power. In this issue we’ll look at how they did it, and how the other parties performed in the exciting summer campaign of 2004.
