Haiti Revolt : Canada Sends Soldiers April 2004

Summary: In February 2004, armed rebels seized a number of towns and cities in the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti. Dozens of people were killed, and President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was forced to go into exile. The United States and France sent in troops to end the fighting. They were soon joined by about 400 Canadian soldiers. We look at the revolt that toppled Aristide, and at the challenges and dangers of Canada’s latest military mission. We also hear from Canada’s Haitian community, and examine the root causes of Haiti‘s tragic history.
