Lost in the Struggle

Summary: Why are young men in certain neighbourhoods of Canadian cities drawn to a culture of violence? For almost a year, three young men who grew up on the rough streets of the Jane and Finch area of Toronto gave Gillian Findlay and The Fifth Estate unprecedented access to the complexities that make up their neighbourhood and their world. For these three friends – Chuckie, Burnz and Freshy – the Jane and Finch area is a tough world to navigate, an even tougher one to escape. Their stories are ones of struggle to succeed when poverty, lack of education and opportunity pull you down; to escape from the only life you’ve known; and to make positive choices in the face of anger and aimlessness. Warning: This program contains disturbing images, language and subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised.
