Summary: When the Soviet Union collapsed many hoped that freedom would replace repression in the new Russia. But in recent years those hopes have been dashed. In this News in Review story we'll look at how Russia's President Vladimir Putin has been cracking down on his opponents. We'll also examine how his government uses fear and the media to make sure only its message is heard.
