Summary: Here are the Stories of Tien, Pina, James, Sandy-Leo, Kinnon, Evan and Gayle. A documentary designed to record, share and celebrate the personal stories of transgender women and men and their stories of struggle, of courage and of triumph. Though they vary in age, ethnicity and socioeconomic backgrounds, each person has fought to cast off the gender assigned to them at birth and embrace their true selves. Tein Neo Eamas Assigned female at birth, Transitioned to male Moving from one country to another can be a life changing event. For Tien Neo Eamas, his move to Canada was the beginning of his transition from female to male. In his search for his self he left behind his ountry of birth, his family and his fundamentalist Christian roots. Kinnon MacKinnon Assigned female at birth, Transition to male Initially he feared telling his parents that he was transgender but he shouldn't have been. They were the ones cheering the loudest when he became the first openly transgender man to win gold in power lifting at the Gay Games. Pina Newman Assigned male at birth, Transitioned to female Psychotherapists told Pina's mom that getting to compete in sports and play with toys like transformers would help make her a boy. Instead, Pina turned to drugs and alcohol. Today, Pina is going to school to get her nursing degree and is an out spoken advocate for Transgender rights at Ryerson University.James Gardner Assigned female at birth, Transition to male James put his career as a radio newscaster at risk when he decided to transition from female to male. Instead of the reaction he was expecting, James received the support he needed to start his new life from his family, coworkers, friends and listeners.Sandy Leo Assigned female at birth, Transitioned to male Sandy-Leo followed a dangerous path to become the two-spirited person she is today. She used her heritage to help heal from the addictions and life on the street. Today she helps others as a registered psychiatric nurse and leader of sweat lodge ceremonies for the First Nation Trans Community. Gayle Roberts Assigned male at birth, Transition to female Gayle endured years of therapy because psychiatrists aid she had multiple personality disorders. After realizing her gender identity was that of a woman, she transitioned from male to female, but in doing so she risked her marriage and career. Evan Keleman Assigned female at birth, Transition to male When he was 8 years old, Evan was sent to a psychiatric hospital dosed with antipsychotics and forced fed for not having proper gender behaviors. Now an artist, he ses his art to help him make sense of his childhood.
