Greening of Pension Funds

Summary: Attitudes about ethical investing are evolving slowly, but activity in the long-term market is a sign of positive change. In this program Hazel Henderson and Bryan Martel, CEO of the Environmental Capital Group, discuss the use of pension funds to address potential ecological concerns. Martel's five-point scale for classifying assets ranges from those that would actively restore eco-balance, such as reforestation projects, to investments with great potential to harm the planet; he notes that too many funds now fall into that upper range. Martel also responds to Henderson's proposal that a full ten percent of all pension funds be allocated to sustainable technology, green development, and renewable energy.
