Gender Inequality : The Pandemic's Impact on Women March 2021

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the groups that has been disproportionately affected is women. Women tend to be the majority of workers in front-facing service jobs. When COVID-19 hit, many of those jobs disappeared. Also, women still bear more of the responsibility for childcare and household management, resulting in many leaving the workforce as schools and daycares shuttered. Statistics reveal that between February and October 2020, 20,600 women fell out of the labour force, even as 68,000 more men joined. Women’s participation in the workforce is now at its lowest level in decades. In this edition of News In Review we look at the impact of this prolonged pandemic on women.
