Alcohol : A Hazard to our Health? April 2022

Summary: Alcohol use is widely accepted as safe in Canada. The industry is thoroughly regulated, and consumers have no shortage of wines, beers and spirits to choose from on store shelves. However, few Canadians realize that alcohol consumption is one of the leading causes of preventable cancers, putting it in the same category as tobacco and asbestos for being a cancer-causing agent. Another dangerous behaviour associated with alcohol is binge drinking, which is on the rise across Canada. In short, alcohol needs to be consumed with caution.
