Ten minute assessment of the adult

Summary: Describes the four types of patient assessment in four different clinical settings using a case study format. These realistic scenarios provide a wealth of information and real time demonstrations of patient evaluations. PT. 1. Outpatient assessment (23min) includes conducting a general survey interviewing the patient, using the mnemoric PQRST to describe his symptoms, taking vital signs, calculating of body mass index and performing a head to toe physical exam. PT.2. Pre-procedure assessment (22min.) covers preparation, discussion of the principles and components of informed consent, a patient interview, review of the chart, and a head to toe physical assessment. PT.3. Inpatient assessment (20min) includes a nurse to nurse verbal report, a chart review, definitions of AHA approved patient condition descriptors, a patient interview and a system assessment review including the grading of pulses. PT. 4. Emergency assessment (23min) includes a rapid general survey, the ABCDE steps of emergency assessment, explanation and use of the Glasgow Coma Scale, and how to gather and AMPLE History
