Kindness of Strangers : Volunteerism in Canada [videorecording] / Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
"Volunteering is participating as a citizen in your society", but in Canada it's a tradition sadly in trouble. What are the reasons for the decline? The first part of this documentary discusses the fundamentals of recruiting volunteers and problems that can arise in the process. A variety of volunteers from across the country express the satisfaction and enjoyment they've discovered in doing something for someone else and making a difference. In the second part of this program, we visit four 24-year-olds from Vancouver who are on a mission to turn their good deeds into good television. The program they are developing, called Extreme Kindness, combines volunteerism and entertainment – as they commit "random acts of kindness" on strangers. Their simple message is that one person can affect change and with more people the results are exponential.
