It started as one of the brightest moments in the history of the Cold War and ended as one of the darkest. It resulted in the largest group of immigrants ever accepted by Canada from one country at one time. It left an imprint on our land that will be felt for decades to come. This documentary is the story of 200,000 Hungarian refugees who needed a home, and a country that took in one-fifth of them. It is the story of one Canadian man, the Honourable J.W. Pickersgill, who became their champion and the story of Canada’s birth as a leader in the refugee movement.
