COVID-19 : Testing and Containment. February 2021 [videorecording] / Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Many infectious disease experts believe Canada should be testing everyone for COVID-19 to find out who is contagious, and not just the people who have symptoms. They say rapid testing may be one of the tools that could help. They’re cheaper, faster and can be used at home. Many countries around the world use rapid tests. But Health Canada has been slow to approve their use here. It argues that they are not as accurate as the PCR test. This despite the Centers for Disease Control having stated that rapid tests are right up to 80 per cent of the time. So is Canada’s COVID testing all wrong?
