Mary May Simon : Canada's First Inuk Governor General. October 2021 video / Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Summary:

Mary Simon was named governor general in July 2021. She is only the fifth woman to hold the position and the first Indigenous person. Simon, who was born and raised in Nunavik, was selected after the previous governor general, Julie Payette, resigned following a scandal in office. Many are thrilled by the idea of an Inuk woman taking the position at a time of national reckoning over Canada's treatment of Indigenous people.
